Sealing terrazzo floors protects the surface from stains, moisture, and wear. Especially in Portland cement-based terrazzo, the porous cement binder can absorb spills and dirt, leading to discoloration and damage. A proper sealant enhances durability, preserves the floor’s appearance, and makes maintenance easier.

What type of sealer should be used on my terrazzo floor?

The type of sealer depends on the binder used in your terrazzo:

· Portland Cement Terrazzo: Requires a penetrating solvent-type sealer after final polishing to protect the porous cement binder.

· Resinous Terrazzo (Epoxy or Polyester Binder): Can be sealed with a non-penetrating or surface-type sealer since the resinous matrix creates a non-porous surface.

How often should terrazzo floors be sealed?

The frequency of sealing depends on foot traffic and the type of terrazzo. High-Traffic Areas may need sealing every 1-2 years to maintain protection and appearance. Low-traffic Areas may need sealing only every 3-5 years.
