ANSWERS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Frequently Asked Questions

Explore 30 practical answers about surface restoration, professional cleaning and everyday care. Your local MARBLELIFE team can help you choose the right next step.

Getting Started

Estimates, assessments and finding the right local team.

Do you service commercial clients?

Yes. MARBLELIFE provides surface care for homes and commercial properties, including offices, hotels, retail spaces and other facilities. The plan depends on the material, its condition and how the space is used. Ask your local team about the services and scheduling available for your property.

What can I expect when requesting a quote?

Your local team will discuss the surface, the concerns you see and the scope of the project. Share your ZIP code, material, approximate area and photos if available. The team will explain the assessment needed, recommend suitable care and prepare an estimate before you agree to the work.

What if I am not sure what service I need?

Describe what you see, such as dullness, stains, scratches, chips or discolored grout. A MARBLELIFE specialist can assess the material and distinguish buildup from damage, then explain whether cleaning, repair, polishing, sealing or restoration is appropriate.

What's the typical cost to refinish a marble floor?

The area, condition, finish you want, repairs and access all affect the cost. Cleaning, repair and polishing involve different work, so a surface assessment is needed for an estimate that reflects your floor. Contact your local team rather than relying on a general price per square foot.

How do I find the MARBLELIFE office that serves my ZIP code?

Use the location directory or enter your ZIP code in the consultation form to find the appropriate team. Confirm coverage, the service you need and project requirements with that office. The local team can help you choose the next step for your home or commercial property.

Marble & Natural Stone

Understand finish damage, repairs and care for marble, granite, travertine and limestone.

What is stone restoration, and can all types of stone surfaces, structures, and items be restored?

Stone restoration addresses wear or damage to the existing surface. Depending on the material and condition, it may include repairs, honing, polishing and sealing. Floors, countertops and walls can often be restored, but the team needs to inspect the damage and explain the practical limits before recommending a treatment.

Vinegar spilled on my polished marble floor, leaving dull spots. What do I do?

Vinegar can etch marble because it is acidic. An etch changes the surface finish, so stronger cleaning will not restore the shine. Stop using acidic products and have the mark assessed; professional honing or polishing may be suitable, depending on the finish and damage.

Can marble countertops be restored?

MARBLELIFE offers restoration for marble countertops and vanities as well as floors. The condition of the stone and the damage determine whether cleaning, repair, honing or polishing is suitable. Your specialist will discuss the finish and the result that can reasonably be achieved.

Are marble walls restorable?

Marble walls can be assessed for cleaning, repair and refinishing. Access, the installation and the condition of the stone influence the approach. A local specialist can explain which treatment is suitable and how adjoining surfaces will be protected.

Is it possible to restore granite?

MARBLELIFE provides granite cleaning, repair, polishing and restoration. Granite needs an approach suited to its material and finish. A specialist can evaluate dullness, residue, chips or other damage and recommend the appropriate service.

Why can't I remove water marks from my marble or travertine?

A pale or dull mark may be an etch rather than a stain, although residue can also affect the appearance. Etching changes the surface finish; a stain changes the color in the material. Have the mark assessed before using stronger cleaners so the treatment addresses the actual cause.

My granite countertops have lost their shine. How can I restore them?

Cleaner residue, oils or an altered finish can make granite appear cloudy. Use a cleaner intended for the surface and avoid adding wax or polish without advice. If suitable cleaning does not resolve it, your local team can determine whether residue removal or professional refinishing is needed.

Does granite need both cleaning and sealing?

Cleaning removes soil and residue. Sealing is a separate treatment intended to improve stain resistance where needed. The granite, its finish and existing protection should be assessed so any new sealer is applied to a properly prepared surface.

Can holes or chips in travertine be repaired?

Travertine has natural voids, and damaged or open areas may need repair. MARBLELIFE can assess the filling, stone condition and desired finish together to determine a suitable repair and restoration approach. Ask how the repair will relate to the surrounding surface.

Does limestone need different care from granite?

Yes. Limestone and granite differ in composition, porosity and finish. Limestone can be sensitive to acidic products, so its cleaning and restoration plan should be chosen for that material rather than copied from granite care. Identify the stone with your specialist before selecting a treatment.

Tile, Grout & COLORSeal

Cleaning, sealing and color options for your existing tile and grout.

Why does my grout still look dirty after mopping?

Porous grout can hold soil and buildup that routine mopping does not remove. Professional tile and grout cleaning addresses those deposits, but cleaning may not correct every absorbed stain or color difference. After inspection, your team can explain whether cleaning alone or a color sealing treatment is appropriate.

Should grout be sealed after it is cleaned?

Suitable sealing can improve grout stain resistance and make routine care easier. The grout needs to be clean, prepared and assessed before a sealer is selected. Your team can explain the difference between penetrating sealing and color sealing for your installation.

What is COLORSeal, and how is it different from grout cleaning?

COLORSeal is MARBLELIFE’s grout color sealing treatment. Cleaning removes soil and buildup; color sealing gives suitable, prepared grout a more consistent color and a protective surface. Your specialist will assess the grout and discuss color and maintenance before recommending it.

Can I change my grout color without replacing the tile?

COLORSeal can refresh or change the appearance of suitable grout while keeping the existing tile. The grout condition, preparation and chosen color matter. Discuss your preferred appearance and a representative sample with your local team before selecting the treatment.

Will sealing fix cracked grout or loose tiles?

No. A sealer is a protective treatment, not a repair. Cracked grout, loose tiles and related installation problems should be assessed before cleaning or sealing. Your team can explain which repairs and preparation need to be included in the work.

Terrazzo, Concrete, Slate & Vinyl

A care plan suited to the material and the way your space is used.

What can terrazzo restoration include?

Terrazzo restoration may include cleaning, repair, honing or polishing of the existing floor, with sealing where suitable. The binder, aggregate, damage and desired finish help determine the process. MARBLELIFE can assess residential and commercial terrazzo before recommending a scope.

How do polished concrete and concrete coatings differ?

Polishing refines the existing concrete surface. A coating adds a separate finish over a prepared slab. The concrete condition, traffic, use and appearance you want influence which approach is suitable; preparation and repairs should be discussed for either option.

Can slate be cleaned and sealed without losing its character?

Slate care should account for its texture, existing finish and the appearance you want. Cleaning and preparation come first, followed by assessment of sealing or another suitable finish treatment. Your team can discuss the expected effect on color and sheen before work begins.

Can worn vinyl floors be cleaned or restored?

MARBLELIFE offers vinyl cleaning, repair, restoration and maintenance. The vinyl type, existing coatings, wear and damage determine the practical options. Your local team can assess the floor and explain whether care of the existing surface is appropriate.

Everyday Care & Maintenance

Preparing for service and looking after the surface once the work is complete.

Is the stone restoration process messy?

Restoration can involve wet processes, equipment and surface preparation. Your team will discuss how the work area, nearby finishes and furnishings will be protected and how cleanup will be handled. Ask about the proposed methods and access needs before the work begins.

Will my furniture be at risk during stone floor restoration?

Discuss furniture, rugs and nearby fixtures with your team before work begins. They can explain which items need to be moved and how the surrounding area will be protected. Confirm those preparations and access arrangements as part of the project plan.

Will my decorative entry rug harm my natural stone floor?

An appropriate entry mat can reduce the grit tracked onto stone, but trapped dirt and unsuitable backing can affect the floor. Use a mat and pad intended for your surface, keep them clean, and follow the flooring and mat manufacturers’ care instructions.

Are there any specific care or maintenance recommendations for stone surfaces?

Remove grit regularly, clean spills promptly and use a cleaner suitable for the material and its finish. Follow the care instructions for any treatment applied. Ask your local team whether traffic and wear call for professional maintenance in addition to your everyday routine.

How is ongoing maintenance planned for a commercial property?

A maintenance plan should account for the material, foot traffic, everyday cleaning and visible wear. Share operating hours, access requirements and the areas involved with your local team. They can discuss the appropriate care and scheduling, including properties with multiple locations.

Will a stone sealer prevent all stains and etching?

No. A suitable sealer can improve stain resistance, but it does not make stone damage proof or replace prompt spill cleanup. It does not repair scratches or prevent acid etching on sensitive materials. Cleaning, finish restoration and sealing each serve a different purpose.
