ANSWERS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Local Surface Care Questions.

For any specific queries or concerns, feel free to reach out.

How Can I Protect My Marble From Damage?
Protection varies based on the surface type—floor, counter, or shower wall. MARBLELIFE offers FREE consultations to provide recommendations tailored to your specific surface, material, and environment. Recommendations include care products, floor mat considerations, daily maintenance, other building surfaces, building use and foot traffic requirements, past cleaner and floor care methods.     Marble damage can be associated with wear, acid-etching, and staining.   Seal to Enhance Stain Resistance: Marble is naturally porous and can absorb spilled liquids, leading to staining unless sealed. Typical silicone seals can be removed if exposed to acidic materials, such as vinegar or spills. It’s advisable to re-seal every other year in residential environments and more frequently in bars or hotels. Sealing is much less costly than replacing a stained surface.   Acid-Etching: Marble can be dissolved by acids. Acidic cleaners like vinegar or citrus-scented products can dull surfaces by pitting them. Avoid acidic cleaners altogether. Use only cleaners specifically designed for marble. MARBLELIFE cleaners are stone and seal-safe, formulated to avoid restoration issues. Approximately 20% of MARBLELIFE’s residential restoration projects involve damage from inappropriate cleaners.   Wear: It’s not foot traffic that wears a marble surface, but the grains of sand, dust, or hair caught underfoot that create localized pressure and scratches. Regular dust-mopping and using dust-trapping mats at entrances can help extend the life of your floor finish.   When in doubt, call MARBLELIFE for a FREE consultation. A bit of knowledge can save thousands in restoration costs and save countless fruitless hours of trial and error.    We are happy to assist.
Do I Need to Restore My Marble?
Not always. Sometimes, issues arise from build-up caused by wax-containing cleaners, often marketed as "clean-and-shine" or "Clean-and-seal" products or polishes.   These products can leave behind waxes or oil, resulting in a dull, dingy look over time. In such cases, MARBLELIFE recommends professional cleaning to remove the build-up and free the surface so you can see its natural beauty.    We recommend you use a professional stone craftsman to ensure that these materials are removed with a surface and seal safe method. Otherwise, one might create a new issue in trying to resolve the current.    Once the surface is back under control and free of build-up, MARBLELIFE can recommend care processes and products that will allow a homeowner to maintain the surface.   A high traffic floor building will require periodic maintenance. But done properly this is much more cost effective than periodic restoration.   For chips, cracks, or damage from acidic cleaners or spills, no cleaner can repair the damage. Restoration is needed to return the surface to its original, beautiful condition.
How Do You Ensure Quality and Longevity After Restoration?
MARBLELIFE-ENDURACRETE will restore your floor to its original appearance unless an alternate finish is specified. Once restored, these surfaces will remain beautiful if cleaned with appropriate cleaners and protected from abrasive materials.

    ANSWERS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

More Answers for Your Local Project.

Do I need stone cleaning or stone restoration?

Cleaning removes soil and surface residue. Restoration addresses wear or damage to the material or finish, and may include repair, honing or polishing. A surface assessment helps distinguish the two before a treatment is selected.

Does every natural stone need the same treatment?

No. Marble, travertine, granite, slate and terrazzo differ in composition and finish. The care plan should account for the specific material, where it is installed and the condition of the surface.

Is a dull mark on marble a stain or an etch?

A stain changes the color within the stone. Etching changes the surface finish and can leave a dull or pale mark. Cleaning alone may not correct an etched finish; an assessment determines whether polishing or another restoration treatment is appropriate.

Can I use vinegar on marble or travertine?

Marble and travertine are sensitive to acidic products. Vinegar and other acids can dull or etch the finish. Use a cleaner intended for the material and ask your local team about existing marks before attempting a stronger treatment.

Why does granite look cloudy after cleaning?

Residue from cleaners, waxes or oils can leave granite looking hazy. A worn finish or other damage can also affect its appearance. The surface should be assessed before deciding whether it needs residue removal, polishing or restoration.

How are granite cleaning and sealing different?

Cleaning removes soil and residue. Sealing is a separate treatment intended to improve stain resistance where needed. The granite condition and existing protection should be assessed so a new sealer is applied to a properly prepared surface.

Will tile and grout cleaning make the grout color uniform?

Cleaning removes soil and buildup, but discoloration or absorbed stains can remain. After cleaning and evaluating the grout, your team can explain whether a penetrating sealer or a color sealing treatment is suitable.

What is COLORSeal and how does it differ from grout cleaning?

COLORSeal is MARBLELIFE’s grout color sealing treatment. After preparation, it provides a more consistent grout color and a sealed surface that is easier to maintain. Cleaning removes soil; color sealing addresses the grout color and its protection.

Can COLORSeal change the existing grout color?

COLORSeal can be used to refresh or change the appearance of suitable grout. Discuss the current grout condition, the desired color and a representative sample with your local team before deciding on the treatment.

Should loose tiles or cracked grout be repaired before sealing?

A sealer does not replace a repair. Cracked grout, loose tiles and other installation problems should be assessed so the appropriate repairs and surface preparation can be planned before a protective treatment.

Can you work on stone or tile showers?

MARBLELIFE provides care for shower surfaces as well as floors and countertops. Material, soap buildup, grout condition and visible damage influence the recommended cleaning, repair or restoration approach.

What is the difference between polished concrete and a concrete coating?

Polishing refines the existing concrete surface. A coating adds a separate finish over a prepared surface. The condition of the slab, its use and your appearance goals help determine which service to consider.

Do you provide both residential and commercial surface care?

Yes. MARBLELIFE provides surface care for homes and commercial properties. The scope should account for the surface, the traffic it receives and how the space is used.

What affects the cost of stone restoration or grout care?

The material, area, condition, access and treatment needed affect the work scope. Cleaning, repair, polishing and sealing are different services. A project assessment is needed for an estimate that reflects your surface.

How do I maintain the surface after professional care?

Follow the care instructions for the material and treatment used. Suitable cleaners and a consistent routine help preserve the result. Ask your team about daily care and whether a professional maintenance plan suits the level of use.

How do I find the MARBLELIFE team for my property?

Use the location directory or enter your ZIP code in the consultation form to identify the appropriate team. Confirm service availability, coverage and project requirements with that team.

What information helps prepare a surface care estimate?

Share your ZIP code, surface material, where it is installed, the approximate area and the concern you see. Photos can help explain the problem. Your local team will confirm the appropriate assessment and scope before work is agreed.

Where can I see surface restoration projects?

The project gallery shows work from the MARBLELIFE network. Compare examples for a similar material and service, then ask your local team how the condition of your own surface may affect the result.
